Vula began teaching Iyengar Yoga in 2000. She holds the highest teaching certification in Greece and the Balkans (Junior Intermediate Level 3). She has been a direct student of BKS Iyengar in Pune India, as well as a senior pupil of Guruji worldwide.
Vula has a dynamic and flowing teaching style. Her dedication to Guruji’s teachings, as well as her experience in Pune, enables her to assist in a precise and individual manner. Her vibrancy and passion have inspired a variety of students from different backgrounds and age groups to come to Iyengar Yoga and stay.
Vula has a BSc in chemistry and an MSc in computing. Her science background enables her to connect to the more analytical and precision-focused aspect of Iyengar Yoga, which she finds both challenging and meaningful. In Guruji’s words, “When I practice I am a philosopher, when I teach I am a scientist, when I demonstrate I am an artist”.
Friday 20 January 2017 | Restorative Yoga Public Class
19:00 – 20:30
– with YogaKula Cards, guests are welcome!
Saturday 21 January 2017
Iyengar Way Workshop
13:30 – 18:30
- Day 1 / 80 Euro
On Saturday morning we will set the foundations and build a stable base. This involves working on the standing āsanas. It is said that the standing āsanas include all the micromovements of all the other groups of āsanas. We will learn straightforward yet interesting methods of practicing in order to awaken the feet and observe how tweaking the direction and alignment of the feet translates into greater stability and expansion. Chairs can assist significantly in this endeavour, so we will explore methods of employing them so as to gain access into deepening our understanding. Balancing and revolved āsanas reveal themselves effortlessly, when one learns how to work efficiently by following Guruji Iyengar’s teachings.
15:30 – 16:30 Tea break
On Saturday afternoon, in true Iyengar tradition, we will practice our inversions and some restorative work. Chairs will stay with us and assist us this time into fully supporting us, thus allowing the nervous system to settle down and reach greater depths of relaxation. Should time permit, some prānāyāma practice will take place.
Sunday 22 January 2017 | Iyengar Way Workshop
13:30 – 18:30
- Day 2 / 80 Euro
On Sunday morning, we will allow gravity to prepare us for some backbending principles – so we will head for the ropes! By now it will also be hard to part from our beloved chairs, so after all the preparation on Saturday for our stable base, we will now focus on maximum spinal extension through a more energetic practice – jumpings, twists, assisted backbends etc. A suitable peak āsana will be chosen, depending on the level of the participants – practising Urdhva Dhanurasāsana 20 times surely also counts, right?
15:30 – 16:30 Tea break
On Sunday afternoon, we will wrap up our weekend by quietening our nervous system again, possibly with mild forward bends respecting all the space we created in the morning. Inversions and supines will provide the backdrop of a well-rounded class and inspire us for our home practice.
