A Yoga Workshop on Asana Essentials - Core, Hips & Shoulders with Neil Barker | Fri 15 July - Sun 17 July 2016 | Pureyoga Vienna

After almost 20 years of teaching Hatha Yoga Asanas, Neil Barker has identified three major, common problem areas in Yoga Asana practice: a weak core, which includes the lower back, tight hips, weak and tight shoulders. The workshop on “Asana Essentials – Core, Hips & Shoulders” will address all three key areas for a safe and effective asana practice.

Neil presents the anatomy and then skilfully integrates the theory into practice including:
• Demystifying Bandha’s, Awakening an Intelligent Core, the concept of Mula and Uddiyana Bandha, and explore how all movements of the hips and shoulders must pass through and be integrated by an active intelligent core.
• Core & Shoulder Integration in fundamental arm balances from Headstand to Forearm Balance, to handstand skills
• Happy Hips:  a practice session focusing on opening the six directions of the Hip Joint.

About Neil Barker

Neil Barker
began his spiritual enquirNeil Barker YogaWorkshop | yogaguidey at an early age, influenced by Martial Arts philosophy and practice. His Shotokan Karate master recommended him to also practice softer styles, especially that of Taijiquan (Tai Chi). After 14 years of Martial Arts practice he set off in pursuit of Yoga. It was in 2004 that Neil met his Guru and spiritual mentor, Sri Om Prakesh Tiwari, who eventually gave Neil his blessing to teach the science of Yoga in the tradition of Kaivalyadhama. Additionally, in 2006 he received ‘Authorisation’ to teach the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga method from Sri K Pattabhi Jois. Neil is also a Yoga Alliance E-RYT500 accredited teacher.
As Neil is a qualified Acupuncturist, well studied in Traditional Chinese Medicine, he integrates a deeper understanding of subtle energetic anatomy into his teachings. Neil spent 6 years as the Director of Education & Training at Centered Yoga Institute/Yoga Thailand, Asian’s most successful teachers training program.

Participants
This workshop is appropriate for all interested students at all levels of practice, from the experienced beginner to advanced practitioner as well as for yoga teachers. For students that “only” practice and who like to understand how they can build up and improve the most important elements (shoulder, hips, core strength) for their personal yoga practice, as also for yoga teachers (to be), who want to build up a real and deeper understanding how they can encourage their students solving their major problems in practice.

This workshop is recognized by the Yoga Alliance as „Continuing Education“ (11 h)
